Vending is about finding great locations. Since my inception into the vending business, I have noticed that you could have machines in several different location, but not be getting the right kind of traffic. When you look for locations to place your vending machines take a few things into consideration 1. Is the business in a major business district,2. Is the business a need for the community and does it solve a problem, 3. How much foot traffic is the business getting. If you take these few things into consideration you should see some results in generating a profit for yourself.
A business in a busy business district means revenue for your company. Most business who are in a great or busy area of town has a better chance of making money than those that are not in a heavily populated part of town. The more people the more money you have a chance of making when there a heavily populated areas. You can sometimes get what is called overflow traffic from other business if the business in that area are so crowed that they can't service the folks that come in for service.
The next area of concern is does the business solve a problem. Most people look anywhere to place a vending machine and that should not be your own methodolgy. For example, if you get an auto mechanic shop for a client there is a good chance that you will do good business, because they are solving a problem that people need like getting there cars fixed. Next, a beauty or hair salon is another location that is a service area you could see success in, because alot of folks need to get their hair and their nails done. If you were to try and place a machine in a real estate office then their is a chance that you may not make any money because the real estate office doesn't have enough traffic coming in on a regular basis.
Traffic to a business is always important when you are trying to generate some revenue. Many business don't have enough traffic coming in the door to help you make any money. Millions of business are not meeting there own numbers, and if you are in bed with them then you will not meet your numbers. When operation candy gum ball machines you should try to hit a goal of ten dollars a month at one hundred machines which would generate a thousand dollars a month for your company twelve thousand dollars a year. When you are averaging numbers like this you have a business that thriving and you can grow your revenue slowly and make a good steady profit, but if you get a business who has the illusions of traffic coming in the door, and none is showing up then you will not make any money.
So, when deciding to place machines in your area remember that location location location is your main concern and focus when building your business. If you don't have the right location then you want have the right amount of money and thats no fun at all.

Never fill a machine up more than ¼ of the way before you know how a location is going to perform. If you are consistently having spoilage problems then you are filling your machines too high. Also, if using M&M Peanuts make sure to keep your machines out of direct sunlight.

Re: Clean Machines
The first step in a successful vending business (besides killer locations of course) is cleanliness. You wouldn't believe the number of dirty candy machines around your city. Walk into any retail center and look at the machines, how long has it been since they've been cleaned? A month, 3 months, 6 months? The truth is they have probably never been as clean as the day they were dropped off. That's right, most vendors never clean their machines.
Will this really make a difference? You Bet!
What will eventually happen is the other guy will no longer have a machine there. The business owner will make them remove their machine when they see how well you service yours. Keep your machine clean! You are going to double your business and keep the best locations to yourself!
What to do: When you service your machines you should have a spray bottle with water and a fresh terry cloth rag. Spray the machine and keep wiping until it's crystal clean. Make sure the globe shines like the first day you bought it. Also, make sure your rag looks fresh, no one wants to see you clean your machine with a dirty rag!

As email tips go this is going to be an important one. It is an important aspect of any business, every business, and especially this business. You are not just a vendor; you are a business man or woman, entrepreneur, and investor. Don't you want to know how your investment is turning out?
How does an investor look at his investment? ROI or Return on Investment. You can also look at is as your internal rate of return for your business.
To be successful as a vendor and to be successful in business you need to measure results. If you don't measure, how will you know where you're headed?
Here are several variables you should begin tracking right away.
* Machine sales per month
* Sales per "head" per month. Double head machine would have two heads. You need to keep track of each head and how it performs.
* Total Sales per type of candy per month. You need to know if you are selling more M&M Peanuts than Runts and by how much.
* % Margin on candy per month. M&M Peanuts may have greater sales than gumballs but gumballs may earn more profit due to the higher margins.
Now, using all of your data; load your spreadsheet program up and input all of this data to create a Pivot Table. This will show you graphically what is going on in your business. This is your first level of measurement.
Steps:1. Measure Results

3. Make informed decisions.
4. Take the necessary steps to increase value.

What Recession is the question? I am making money in this bad economy are you?
